Resolution on Climate Catastrophe & Social Change

Whereas, Northern California CCDS members were instrumental in initiating a 1/10 & 11/09 West Coast Regional Conference on the ecological crisis from an Eco-Socialist perspective and
Whereas, wide ranging discussions with relevant experts took place at the conference and
Whereas, the need to struggle for a more equal, more humane, more collective and more sustainable world is urgent, in addition to theorizing support is needed for essential immediate changes:
Therefore be it resolved that CCDS supports:
- drastic and enforceable reduction in the emission of greenhouse gasses
- development of clean energy sources
- elimination of nuclear energy and war spending
- nationalization of the oil, coal, and gas industries
- provision of a universal free public transportation system
- creation of pollution clean-up programs
- solidarity with popular struggles to block the extraction of carbon and uranium, e.g. from Nigeria to Ecuador to Australia to California
- ending subsidies for industrial agriculture, including animal factories
- total mobilization to force worthy climate protocols in Copenhagen in December 2009
- ending the practice of the disproportionate location of toxic materials and industries in communities of color (which is environmental racism) and in low income communities
- federal government takes actions to implement
