AfterDowningStreet.org Update:
More than Forty Events Nation-wide on July 23rd

Democrats.com is a co-founder of AfterDowningStreet.org, which is a fabulous coalition of progressive groups which are demanding a Congressional investigation of whether the Bush administration lied to Congress and the American people about Iraqi WMD's and ties to Al Qaeda.

This investigation is crucial because a Zogby poll just reported 42% of Americans believe Congress should impeach Bush if he lied about Iraq.

We believe the Downing Street Minutes are the "smoking gun" that proves Bush lied. The Minutes describe a meeting of Tony Blair's war council on July 23, 2002, which included a report from the head of British intelligence, Sir Richard Dearlove, about his visit to Washington.

"[Dearlove] reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

Democrats.com and AfterDowningStreet.org are working with Rep. John Conyers to make sure every American reads the Downing Street Minutes.

July 23 will mark the 3rd anniversary of the Minutes, and we are planning Town Hall Meetings and house parties across the country. There are over 40 events in the works, and plenty of time to organize one in your community if you would like to help.
