Carol Roberts Palm Beach County canvassing board member Carol Roberts, an active Democrat, makes no apologies for the Gore/Lieberman bumper sticker on her car. She has been the strongest voice for conducting a full hand recount of the heavily Democratic county.

Roberts, a former mayor and city commissioner of West Palm Beach, initially lead the call to hand recount, supported by County Elections Supervisor Theresa LePore and outvoting Election Board Chairman Judge Charles Burton. The other board members, Burton and LePore, later voted against Roberts to suspend the count after Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris said the hand count might be illegal. They then joined Roberts in proceeding with the recount after the FL Supreme Court approved it.

Roberts told CNN she has been the target of death threats and has been under police protection since she gained national attention in the days after the deadlocked presidential election. (CNN)
